PRESS UNIT
The Press Unit serves as the official communication arm of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. It is responsible for disseminating accurate, timely, and relevant information to the public and the media. The Unit works to enhance public awareness and understanding of the Ministry’s programmes, initiatives, and policies.
MANDATE
To manage the Ministry’s public communications and media relations, ensuring transparency, trust, and engagement between the Ministry and the Nigerian public.
VISION
To be a proactive and reliable source of information, fostering a well-informed and health-conscious society through strategic communication.
MISSION
To support the Ministry’s goal of delivering quality healthcare by ensuring effective communication of health policies, programmes, and activities to all stakeholders.
STRUCTURE
The Press Unit is headed by a Director of Press and Public Relations, supported by Information Officers and Media Liaison Officers assigned to various departments and parastatals under the Ministry.
FUNCTIONS
- Issuing press releases, public statements, and official communications;
- Coordinating media coverage of Ministry events, initiatives, and campaigns;
- Monitoring and analyzing media reports related to the Ministry;
- Managing relationships with local and international media houses;
- Overseeing the Ministry's presence on traditional and digital media platforms;
- Facilitating press briefings, interviews, and media tours;
- Serving as the first point of contact for media enquiries and public feedback;
- Promoting public health messages in collaboration with relevant departments.
